New Orleans Was the Place to Be
By Ken Kopolow, OD
The SNAPP meetings are among my favorites of the year. And they just keep getting better as SNAPP draws more licensed operators and great speakers. The days we spent together in New Orleans last week truly illustrate why this meeting is so important.
It provides a unique setting that allows us all to hear about the challenges and successes that others find in similar settings. ODs and licensed operators learn from each other, as we interact, network and support each other.
The Think Tank sessions, for example, are led by members—not necessarily experts. We recognize that in an interactive session, we will hear from many members who have had a chance to try solutions to challenges. We become the experts because we share these experiences.
Not only is it a great learning opportunity and the chance to earn valuable CE credit, the meeting also provides a highly anticipated chance to reconnect with friends. Walking along the tables where meals and ideas were shared, I could hear that friendships were being struck up or strengthened.
Every one of these SNAPP meetings demonstrates the “Three Tier Mission” of the organization: group buying discounts, education (professional and business) and camaraderie. This is how we help each other.
Look for more details on the SNAPP National Meeting in New Orleans in our next issue, and make sure that you join us at our next meeting in Las Vegas during Vision Expo West. No two SNAPP meetings are exactly alike, and each seems to improve upon the last. Your SNAPP board will have a hard act to follow after this very successful SNAPP meeting that just concluded.
Fond Farewell: We at SNAPP want to wish our friend and Member Services Coordinator Alex Shapiro a fond farewell. Alex has decided to pursue other opportunities. We appreciate Alex’s dedication in helping build our organization to what it is today. Best of luck, Alex!

Human Resources
Tip of the Month from AmCheck: The Cost of Employee Turnover
Employee turnover is more expensive than people think. On average, employers spend $4,129 per hire. Depending on the role you’re filling, some of these costs can be tracked and calculated but others are harder to gauge, like the impact on employee engagement. This infographic gives you the statistics on turnover with some practical tips to encourage retention—the easiest way to cut turnover costs.
